The Sierra County Transportation Commission (SCTC) is established by Section 29535 of the Government Code. Section 29535 establishes a local transportation commission that is designated as a Regional Transportation Planning Agency (RTPA) responsible for area-wide transportation planning in Sierra County.
The SCTC, serving as the RTPA since 1972, includes an executive director, executive secretary, three representatives and one alternate appointed by the City of Loyalton, three representatives and one alternate appointed by the County of Sierra, and one representative of transit or transportation appointed by the commission.
The goal of the SCTC is to achieve a coordinated and balanced regional transportation system. The intent includes, but is not limited to, streets and highways, public transportation, specialized transportation, equestrian, pedestrian, bicycle and aviation facilities and services.
