The United States Census Bureau has reached out recently to identify Sierra County’s census responses have been low this year. Fortunately there’s still time to submit your census.
Why is the census critical to Sierra County? The Census determines how over $800 billion in federal funds gets distributed back to states for things like road and infrastructure improvements, hospitals, schools and social services. Currently, Sierra County’s response rate to the 2020 census is below the state average. This could result in the loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars to our community.
If you haven’t completed it yet, you can fill it out on-line at www.my2020census.gov (You don’t need the code if you don’t have it, you can use your address.). Include EVERYONE living with you…no matter how young/old, citizenship status or even if the living situation is temporary. When people are not counted on the census, our community suffers (especially in times like these)! Some of the programs that are impacted are schools, hospitals, day care funding, Medi-Cal, Section 8 and so much more! Complete it today www.my2020census.gov.
