If you believe you have COVID-19, CALL your healthcare provider for direction. They will ask you important questions to determine what to do next.
Testing is not available in Sierra County, but the collection of samples can be done by our local medical clinics. The healthcare provider will first determine if someone meets the criteria for testing, then may collect the sample using proper personal protective equipment. Testing must be done in the controlled environment of a laboratory. The sample is sent to a laboratory in San Diego and once received, will take 3-5 business days to confirm results. Test results are sent to the provider, who will notify the Public Health Department. If the test is positive the laboratory is also mandated to report this via the CalREDIE database. CalREDIE is checked twice a day by the Public Health Nurse.
