1. Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Update

The purpose of the CWPP is to update the wildfire hazards and risks and provide potential projects to mitigate those hazards within the Sierra County responsibility areas, which include the following Fire Protection Districts:

Sierra City Fire Protection District
Downieville Fire Protection District
Pliocene Ridge Community Service District

2. Sierra County Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan

The County’s Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan will identify hazards that pose a risk to our communities and will identify actions the County and its Planning Partners can take to reduce the impacts from the hazards. This plan will guide local governments to implement the mitigation strategies identified in the plan. By having a plan in place, the County and its Planning Partners are eligible for FEMA HMA funding.  | More about the plan and why it is needed

If you live, work, or play in the County, please take a moment to fill out a short survey. This survey aims to collect your thoughts on any hazards and risks we face locally. Results from the survey will help us better coordinate future mitigation activities to create more resilient communities!

Meetings

The Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee and Planning Partnership meet monthly as needed to work on the plan for the County. These meetings are open to the public and held virtually. Check back for meeting information and to revise past meeting agendas and summaries. Meeting Ground Rules

3. Formation of a Drought Task Force and drafting a Sierra County Drought Plan for Small Water Systems.

SB 552 places the drought and water shortage planning responsibility on counties for state small water systems and domestic well communities within the county’s jurisdiction. 

State Small Water System (SSWS): These are not public water systems, but they serve water for human consumption through at least 5, but not more than 14 service connections and do not regularly serve more than 24 year-long residents.
