Internet Access
Need Internet Access in Sierra County?
Whether you're living, working, or visiting Sierra County, getting online can be a challenge. Many residents and visitors face barriers to reliable internet access, such as:
- Limited service providers: Few internet companies operate in our area, and most do not offer affordable plans for fixed-income or low-income households.
- Challenging infrastructure: Our steep terrain, high percentage of public lands, and small population make it costly and difficult for companies to invest in broadband infrastructure.
- Limited coverage: Many parts of the county have weak or no cell signal, making even basic communication difficult.
To help bridge the digital divide, Sierra County maintains a growing list of free, publicly accessible Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the region. To add a location to the list, please email mbeachell@sierracounty.ca.gov
Please note that all Sierra County buildings have publicly accessible Wi-Fi and that the user will need to accept the use policy before gaining access to network. Many local businesses offer internet access to their patrons. Please see the Sierra County Resource Guide for more information.
